“Oiran Girl”Oiran girl, 8 years old was apprentice for Japanese highest/ranking courtesan or prostitute during Edo period 1600-1868, known for their beauty, artistic skills in music instruments, dance, writing, reading and manners for Bushi or Samurai. Young girls were sold by their parents. They had very intense schedules so that their lifespan was up to around 22 years old. この絵のたった8歳の花魁見習いの少女は聖書を片手にクリスマスをお祝いしている。花魁とは15歳くらいになると江戸時代の遊女となり、歌、三味線、読み書き、茶道、などを学びハイクラスの武士を相手とした。花魁の寿命は平均22歳と言われるほどの過酷なスケジュールがあった。
